This project was completed in Denver, Colorado. The customer had a 260 sq’ section of full basement but the remaining 800 sq’ of the footprint was very shallow crawl space. The goal of the customer was to dig out the crawl space and turn it into a basement. The added space would be used to add a bathroom, a living area for movies with the family, and a space to add a professionally installed golf simulator for those winter months that it is hard to play in Colorado.
The work began on November 8th and was completed on January 30th. When we arrived the crawl space had a 2 ½’ clearance and when the basement was completed, we had 10’ ceilings. This height was required for the golf simulator. The foundation was directly underpinned with new concrete retaining/foundation walls to get that clearance. An egress window was added, and a concrete window well was poured. During and after the foundation wall and basement slab process a waterproofing system was installed to ensure that the newly finished space didn’t have water issues. New oversized steel beams were installed so that the space was completely opened up, and no posts were needed in the middle of the living space. Once the basement structural work was completed there was new plumbing added and all the framing, electrical and finish work was completed. The project turned out beautifully and they are now enjoying their newly added space to their home!
The main hurdles/constraints on this project were lot line issues and limited access to the basement. Parking of trucks and trailers were also a large hurdle as this home was located off a busy road in downtown Denver. The alley access was not great either which created longer distances to haul dirt (over 200 cy of soil removed) by hand. Lastly, the oversized beams were extremely heavy (one of which weighed over 1,100 lbs.) and were needing not be lifted high distances (10’ ceilings). This ended up being one of the most gratifying projects that we have completed, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
This project was completed in Boulder, CO. The customer was looking to finish their basement but before doing so wanted to add an oversized egress window into the basement with a cool concrete window well that allowed for planting flowers in the well.
The work began on March 9th and was completed on March 17th. When we arrived, it was an unfinished basement with no window in that area that the new window would be installed. On the exterior there were sprinkler lines running in that area as well as landscaping and concrete flatwork.
The main hurdle on this project was the inability to gain access to the window with excavation equipment. There is a state park behind this customers home, and the neighbor was not okay with us tracking equipment through their lawn. The concrete form work on this project was a lot of fun for the guys, and we really like how it turned out.
